Now, the developers are hard at work on the upcoming DLCs for Oklahoma and Kansas.
Over the years, SCS Software, the architects behind American Truck Simulator, have honed their skills in creating a striking replica of America’s vast expanses and long-stretching highways. As a testament to their commitment to quality and authenticity, they’ve been routinely revisiting their earliest work, fine-tuning and enhancing their original creation.
Last year, they breathed new life into five northern Californian cities in their second update, and they’re currently in the process of giving the game its third makeover, which is expected to hit the virtual shelves shortly.
This week, SCS Software offered a sneak peek of their latest efforts, unveiling screenshots of their freshly revamped Santa Cruz, a city that has undergone a complete transformation.

The teaser images, posted on the SCS Software blog, showcase a game environment that is nothing short of magnificent. American Truck Simulator may be characterized by its vast landscapes and low-poly details, yet there is a unique charm to its representation of everyday urban life.
This is a game that embraces the ordinary, offering a refreshing departure from the typical open-world games that often opt for more fantastical scenarios.

Phase 3: A Response to Player Feedback
In a previous blog post detailing phase 3 of the California rework, SCS Software outlined their strategy for enhancing city layouts and sizes. These changes, which are being implemented in response to player feedback, also include adjustments to the state’s network of large and small roads. One notable change in the game’s landscape will be the substitution of the city of Oakdale with Modesto.
Since as early as March, a team of up to 10 developers has been dedicating their efforts to the revamp, reflecting SCS Software’s commitment to continuously refining and enhancing the American Truck Simulator experience.
