Denzel Washington is taking on a totally new type of role in the upcoming Gladiator sequel, Gladiator 2. He’s played all kinds of intense characters lately, but his part in this one seems way more fun and loose.
Director Ridley Scott says Denzel is playing a sly dude named Macrinus. He’s like this mega rich guy who owns all kinds of businesses – from weapons making to growing food. Macrinus also runs a gladiator training stable, which doesn’t sound too nice based on how Scott describes him.
It sounds like Macrinus might be one of the bad guys. He seems pretty cruel to the gladiators and wants power like becoming emperor one day. Denzel is known for playing tough criminal-types before, so a villain role like this could be super exciting to see.
What really stands out is that Denzel looks like he’s enjoying himself a lot in the trailers. After so many serious roles, it’s cool to see him joking around and letting loose. Macrinus has a bold personality too from the sounds of it.
This movie won’t revolve around Denzel’s character like usual. He’s more of a side player which is unique. But you know he’ll find a way to steal every scene he’s in with his incredible acting skills. Even in a smaller part, I bet Denzel makes Macrinus totally unforgettable. All in all, it seems like Gladiator 2 gives Denzel a refreshingly fun new challenge to sink his teeth into.
