HBO’s hit post-apocalyptic drama “The Last of Us” continues finding success as it marks Outbreak Day and releases the first trailer for season two. On September 26th, fans commemorate the fictional date that signals the outbreak of the deadly cordyceps virus that ravaged humanity in the show’s world. To celebrate, HBO unveiled a trailer offering early glimpses of the show’s adaptation of video game sequel “The Last of Us Part II.”
Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey return as Joel and Ellie, whose idyllic time skip is cut short by reemerging threats both internal and external. Newcomers Kaitlyn Dever as Abby and Isabela Merced as Dina join the cast. The trailer hints at the darkening of Joel and Ellie’s relationship as their violent past comes back to haunt them in a world that remains perilous. Viewers can look forward to the human drama and visceral action that made the first game a landmark when season two premieres in 2025.
For fans eager to immerse themselves further until then, Sony Interactive Entertainment recently remastered the original games for PlayStation 5. This allows new audiences to experience the source material in striking detail before the television adaptation continues the story. Video game merchandiser PlayStation and toy company Spin Master also revealed an action figure two-pack of the beloved protagonists Joel and Ellie based on their first outing.
HBO’s “The Last of Us” adaptation has garnered widespread acclaim. It scored 24 Emmy nominations including for Best Drama Series, winning eight. Creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann praised for their emphasis on personal relationships in an otherwise bleak world. With over 37 million games sold and counting, the franchise continues expanding into other mediums while finding devoted fans from its own genre and beyond.
