Netflix has announced that Love, Death + Robots will return on May 15 with ten new episodes. This marks the fourth season of the animated anthology series, which last released new content in 2022.

The season, referred to by Netflix as “Volume 4,” includes short-form animated stories produced in a variety of visual styles. Each installment is self-contained and made by a different studio. Themes in the upcoming episodes include dinosaur gladiators, prophetic cats, and string-puppet musicians.

Jennifer Yuh Nelson returns as supervising director. The series is executive produced by Tim Miller, David Fincher, Jennifer Miller, and Joshua Donen. Blur Studio continues its role as the production company behind the series.

Since its 2019 debut, Love, Death + Robots has received multiple industry awards, including 13 Primetime Emmys from 15 nominations. The third season’s “Jibaro,” directed by Alberto Mielgo, earned the juried Emmy for individual achievement in animation. The show has also been recognized by the Annie Awards, ACE, MPSE, and the Visual Effects Society.

Previous seasons have featured voice talent such as Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel McHale, Topher Grace, John DiMaggio, Elodie Yung, and Chris Parnell. Casting details for Volume 4 have not been announced.

In 2021, during a panel at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, creator Tim Miller said he saw a gap in Western animation for adult audiences, particularly at the budget level typically reserved for studio films aimed at younger viewers. This perspective helped shape the direction of the series, which has maintained a distinctive identity within Netflix’s animation lineup.
