Chris Pine will lead and produce Run the Night, an upcoming action film from Lionsgate and Hidden Pictures, with worldwide rights secured by the studio ahead of its sales launch at the Cannes Film Market.
Set in Amsterdam, the film follows a banker who becomes the target of the city’s criminal underworld. Accused of betraying the Dutch mob—referred to as the Penose—he is left without clothes in the center of the city and hunted by violent gangs. With a $10 million bounty on his head, he must cross the city by dawn to protect his wife and child, revealing that his role in the criminal network was more complex than it appeared.
The project marks the directorial debut of Robert Alonzo, a veteran second unit director and stunt coordinator known for work on Deadpool, The Flash, and The Batman. Alonzo previously collaborated with Pine on Star Trek (2009) and has recently been attached to Marvel productions including Captain America: Brave New World and Avengers: Doomsday as a second unit director. He co-founded Tremor House in 2024 to develop and finance mid-budget action titles.
“I love this story, character, and reuniting with Rob,” said Pine. “There are so many places for this character to go, and I’m excited about the possibilities of bringing him to life on the big screen.”
The screenplay is written by John Glenn and Alex Davidson, based on a story by Glenn. Glenn is currently the showrunner for Lionsgate Television’s Robin Hood on MGM+ and previously wrote and produced the film Elevation and co-wrote the action thriller Eagle Eye.
Producers on the project include Todd Lieberman and Alex Young for Hidden Pictures, Pine and Ian Gotler through their Barry Linen banner, and Glenn. Lorenzo De Maio and Evan Gelb of De Maio Entertainment are also attached. James Myers will oversee the production for Lionsgate, with Dan Freedman negotiating the deal on behalf of the studio.
“Chris is an incredible actor and has the perfect combination of warmth and physicality needed to bring this role to life,” said Adam Fogelson of Lionsgate. “We’re proud to be the home of Todd Lieberman’s Hidden Pictures and to be working with this team on the film.”
Lieberman added, “Rob Alonzo is the next great action director. With Rob’s talent behind the camera and our movie star Chris in front, I’m excited by what we have in store for audiences.”
Pine is represented by CAA and Gendler, Kelly & Cunningham. Alonzo is represented by WME and manager Holly Jeter. Glenn is represented by CAA and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
