Elsa Pataky has joined The Mark, the spy thriller now filming in Queensland with Jessica Alba in the lead and Justin Chadwick directing. The new casting comes alongside additions including Mark Coles Smith, Jessica McNamee and Rena Owen, joining previously announced cast members Tom Hopper and Angus Sampson. The project is produced by Alba through Lady Metalmark Entertainment with partners at Highland Film Group, K. Jam Media, Westbrook Studios, Hoodlum and producer Peter Jákl, with international sales handled by Highland.
The film follows Eden, an enigmatic operative drawn into a Gold Coast conspiracy that hinges on a case of mistaken identity involving Ben Dawson, a single father pulled between agencies and crime syndicates. Plot guidance indicates a contemporary, location-driven thriller calibrated for wide audiences, with production support anchored by local screen bodies and crews on the Gold Coast. The Queensland announcement framed the shoot as an inward investment production with a spend boost for the region and a mix of Australian and international talent above and below the line.
The Mark was first unveiled earlier this year with Alba attached to star and Chadwick set to direct from a script by Ronnie Christensen. Recent production notes confirm cameras are rolling in Australia after a midyear prep window, with Alba also serving as a producer as she expands her slate of action and genre titles. Casting of Pataky, known for large-scale stunt-forward roles, signals an emphasis on practical set pieces to complement the film’s espionage storyline.
Backers include longtime independent financiers and producers with recent success in the region’s action corridor, while Westbrook’s involvement points to a strategy of building globally marketable originals with recognizable stars. Local agencies highlighted anticipated economic impact and skills development tied to the production, underscoring why Queensland has become a frequent base for mid-budget thrillers targeting international distribution. With filming underway, the package now moves through principal photography while sales partners position the title for a 2026 release window.
