Prime Video’s We Were Liars is pressing ahead with season 2, and author–executive producer E. Lockhart has indicated that six principal actors from the first run are returning: Emily Alyn Lind, Joseph Zada, Mamie Gummer, Caitlin FitzGerald, David Morse, and Candice King. Lockhart also said the new episodes will weave in story elements from her prequel novel Family of Liars while preserving new twists for viewers who already know that book. The update arrives as the series continues work on its second installment following its renewal in September.
The television adaptation launched on June 18, 2025, introducing audiences to the affluent Sinclair clan and Cadence “Cady” Sinclair Eastman, whose fragmented memory frames the show’s central mystery. Season 1 concluded with revelations that reshaped the family saga and left questions about how the narrative might move forward. Lockhart’s comments suggest the next chapter will bridge timelines and characters, allowing returning adult cast members to sit alongside material rooted in the prequel.
A second season also aligns with Lockhart’s expanding literary universe. She has a new installment, We Fell Apart, which further explores the world introduced in the original bestseller and its 2022 prequel. While plot specifics for the series remain under wraps, the author signaled that season 2 will not simply retell the prequel but will integrate its backstory with fresh developments on Beechwood Island. That approach would maintain continuity with the ensemble led by Lind and Zada while giving space to earlier Sinclair history.
Casting continuity appears central to that plan. Lind’s return keeps the show anchored to Cady’s perspective, while Zada, Gummer, FitzGerald, Morse, and King preserve key family dynamics established in the first season. Public listings for the series and cast corroborate those roles, reflecting the production’s intent to keep familiar faces in place as the timeline broadens. A premiere date for season 2 has not been announced, and additional casting or filming details have not been formally disclosed.
