Captain Pike’s crew got a fresh sendoff Saturday when co-showrunner Akiva Goldsman unveiled new footage from the rest of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ fourth season during the show’s Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con. The season had premiered on Paramount+ just two days earlier, and the panel gave fans their first extended look at what remains of the run before the series wraps with a six-episode fifth season.

Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck, Christina Chong, Celia Rose Gooding, Melissa Navia and Paul Wesley joined Goldsman, Henry Alonso Myers and franchise architect Alex Kurtzman on stage. New episodes arrive weekly on Thursdays through a Sept. 24 finale, giving the season a full ten-episode order that pushes the crew through western, horror and disaster-movie territory, along with an encounter with a dinosaur.

Peck reflected on wrapping production for good, calling the final day of Season 5 filming “beautiful, hopeful, and triumphant” and saying he felt proud to advocate for love, curiosity and logic through the character of Spock. Mount praised Romijn as the crew’s steadying presence on bridge-heavy shooting days, prompting an on-stage hug between the two stars.

Navia discussed the prickly professional dynamic between her character, pilot Erica Ortegas, and Martin Quinn’s engineer Scotty, noting the writers built friction between the ship’s flyers and its mechanics into the relationship from the start.

The panel doubled as a tribute to Star Trek’s 60th anniversary, bringing out franchise veterans including George Takei, Michael Dorn, Robert Picardo, Doug Jones and Michelle Hurd, with a taped introduction from Eugene “Rod” Roddenberry. A free public screening of the season’s first two episodes followed that evening at the Balboa Theatre, giving badge-free fans access to material still days from streaming.

Strange New Worlds arrives at this juncture as the second-to-last chapter in a series that has drawn comparisons to the optimism of classic-era Trek, following a third season that leaned more heavily into comedic and serialized storytelling. Season four sets up a handoff toward Paul Wesley’s James T. Kirk formally taking command of the Enterprise when the show closes out its five-year mission next year.
