Carla Jeffery, the actress best known for playing cheerleader Bree across Disney Channel’s “Zombies” film series, died September 1, her management company confirmed this week. She was 33. Alexanders Talent Management, which represented Jeffery for more than two decades, announced her death in a statement posted to her Instagram account, describing her as family rather than simply a client. The agency did not disclose a cause of death.
Jeffery originated the role of Bree, a Seabrook High cheerleader and close friend to lead character Addison, in the 2018 Disney Channel Original Movie “Zombies.” She reprised the part in “Zombies 2” and “Zombies 3,” then returned to voice the character in the 2024 animated spinoff series. The franchise built a devoted young fan base over its run, and Bree became one of its most recognizable supporting characters. Jeffery’s manager, Carla Alexander, told a Los Angeles television station that Jeffery loved her work and was, in her words, a great person.
Born in Houston on July 10, 1993, Jeffery began acting at age 12, landing an early role as a younger version of Mo’Nique’s character in the 2006 comedy “Phat Girlz.” Her television résumé grew to include appearances on “iCarly,” “Southland,” “Suburgatory,” “Scream Queens,” “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” and “American Vandal,” along with a recurring role as Keysha Black on “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” Disney Channel viewers also saw her in “Good Luck Charlie,” “Shake It Up!” and “Best Friends Whenever” before she landed the role that would define her career.
Tributes poured in from former castmates following the announcement. Milo Manheim, who played Zed opposite Jeffery throughout the franchise, called her the sweetest person he had ever met. Chandler Kinney described her as a shining light and a beautiful soul, while Trevor Tordjman said he would carry the memory of her energy and spirit. Malachi Barton, who joined the franchise in its fourth installment, shared a photo with Jeffery online and wrote that she would be deeply missed.
Jeffery is survived by her twin brother, Carlon Jeffery, also a Disney Channel alum recognized for playing Cameron Parks on “A.N.T. Farm.” Her management company asked that her family’s privacy be respected as they grieve.
