Elizabeth Holmes, the imprisoned founder of Theranos, said Sunday she will begin writing some of her own social media posts, three weeks before a documentary about her reaches theaters.
Holmes announced on X that any post in her own words will carry her initials, “-EAH.” Anything without the signature comes from the team that runs the account, she wrote. Her bio has described the account since her 2022 sentencing as “mostly my words, posted by others.”
The message went further than housekeeping. “I was silenced for a long time. And then imprisoned,” she wrote, adding that she is fighting to prove her innocence and return to her children and her partner, Billy Evans. She counted 1,216 days behind bars and closed with a Bible verse: “The truth will set you free.” A photo of Holmes and Evans, who have two children, accompanied the post.
A federal jury convicted Holmes in 2022 of wire fraud and conspiracy for lying to investors about Theranos, the blood-testing company she built. She is serving an 11-year sentence. Last week a judge approved her transfer to the Austin Transitional Center, a halfway house in Del Valle, Texas, on August 23, 2027.
The timing matches the rollout of “You Can See Everything,” directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim. The A24 film follows Holmes through the 34 days before she entered prison, with Fielder and a crew living alongside her and Evans. It surprised audiences with a Telluride Film Festival debut this month and screens at the New York Film Festival this week. It opens in theaters October 16.
Reaction online has been sharp. Commenters on coverage of the post called it “pure insanity” and told Holmes she is not a victim. Entertainment coverage of the film has also pointed out that Holmes gave the filmmakers access to her life, yet the finished work reflects their narrative, not hers.
Holmes has not said what she plans to write or whether she will address the film directly. Neither Holmes nor A24 has commented on any link between her announcement and the release.
