Vivienne Jolie, daughter of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, has legally dropped “Pitt” from her surname, court records show, making her the fourth of the former couple’s six children to do so.A Los Angeles court heard her name-change petition Monday, according to documents obtained by TheWrap. The 18-year-old, born Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt, will now be Vivienne Marcheline Jolie. She filed the request July 21, nine days after her birthday, and gave the reason as “personal.”
Her siblings set the pattern. Shiloh won approval in 2024, after filing on her 18th birthday. Maddox filed in May and Zahara in June, seeking to become Maddox Chivan Jolie and Zahara Marley Jolie, and both had hearings in September. Pax and Vivienne’s twin, Knox, have not filed petitions.
Vivienne had signaled the move earlier. In 2024, the Broadway program for The Outsiders credited her as Vivienne Jolie while she worked as an assistant and co-producer on the musical. Zahara introduced herself as Zahara Marley Jolie when she joined a sorority at Spelman College.
The filings sit against one of Hollywood’s longest and most bitter divorces. Jolie filed in September 2016, two years after the couple married, following an alleged altercation aboard a private plane flying from France to Los Angeles. She sought primary custody of the six children, and the two fought for years over custody and money. Authorities investigated Pitt over the allegations but did not charge him. A court declared the pair legally single in 2019, yet the remaining issues dragged on for five more years. They reached a settlement in December 2024, ending the eight-year case. Neither side disclosed the terms.
Entertainment outlets have reported strained relationships between Pitt and several of the children, including Zahara, Shiloh, Pax and Vivienne. Those accounts rely on unnamed sources. The court filings offer no explanation beyond the stated personal reasons. Maddox, Pax and Zahara are adopted. Shiloh and the twins, Knox and Vivienne, are the couple’s biological children.
