In a recent Payday 2 livestream featuring Almir Listo, Starbreeze’s global brand director, an important detail about the upcoming shooter, Payday 3, was revealed. During a fan Q&A session, Listo confirmed that Payday 3 will require an always-online game connection, even if players choose to play solo. The news, shared around the 9-minute and 17-second mark of the livestream, has sparked mixed reactions among the game’s community.

Fan Reactions: A Clash of Opinions

The announcement of Payday 3’s always-online requirement has not been universally well-received, particularly among dedicated modders of the franchise. Some players expressed their disappointment, even going as far as stating their intent to cancel their pre-orders due to the lack of offline playability.

On the Steam forums, one disgruntled player shared their discontent, stating, “I was very disappointed to find out that Payday 3 will not be playable offline. I will not be buying PD3, nor will I buy any future games from your company.” Another player added, “Hard pass for me… always online is complete garbage and no reason for it unless you’re making an MMO.”

However, not all fans view the decision as a major concern. Some individuals have taken a more accepting stance, acknowledging their initial frustration but ultimately expressing a willingness to adapt. “Not gonna lie, I was mad myself but had time to think it over and come to the conclusion that I don’t really care if it’s always online or not,” one fan commented. “We gain nothing for it being always online, but I want to play Payday 3 since I’m hyped, so whatever.”

Teasing Stealth Gameplay and Positive Impressions

In other Payday 3 news, Starbreeze released a teaser showcasing the game’s stealth gameplay. However, the teaser was deliberately hidden, requiring fans to explore and uncover its location. This development has generated anticipation and intrigue within the community.

Early previews of Payday 3 have praised the game for refining and enhancing the successful formula established by its predecessor. While maintaining the core elements that players love, the upcoming installment promises a more immersive and believable heisting experience. Starbreeze’s ambition to create the ultimate criminal fantasy game appears to be progressing positively, based on recent hands-on experiences.

Payday 3’s decision to enforce an always-online connection has sparked a divisive discussion among fans. As opinions clash between those concerned about offline playability and those willing to accept the online requirement, the future reception of the game remains uncertain.

With hidden teasers and positive early impressions, the anticipation for Payday 3 continues to grow, leaving players eager to see how this controversial aspect will shape the highly anticipated shooter.
