As the countdown to Google’s I/O 2024 event continues, the upcoming Pixel 8a mid-range smartphone has been the subject of several recent leaks, providing a glimpse into the device’s design, color options, and expected specifications.

The first major reveal came from a listing spotted on the UScellular website, where the Pixel 8a appeared in the carrier’s Device Tutorials section, showcasing the front panel of the device. The listing confirms that the Pixel 8a will feature a familiar punch-hole display design with more rounded corners than its predecessor, the Pixel 7a.

In addition to the design details, the UScellular listing also suggests that the Pixel 8a will include features like Face Unlock, alongside the traditional fingerprint security. While the listing didn’t reveal concrete specifications, it does indicate that the device’s launch is imminent, likely timed to coincide with the Google I/O 2024 event scheduled for May 14.

So it's about 1AM early Saturday morning at Google HQ. How long will it take the right person to notice this and reach out to someone at the carrier, who will then presumably need to ping yet a third individual at the vendor responsible for posting (and removing) these tutorials? pic.twitter.com/4neK48wGUZ

Alongside the UScellular leak, recent renders have also surfaced, showcasing the expected color options for the Pixel 8a. According to the leaks, the mid-range device will be available in four distinct shades: Mint (Green), Obsidian (Black), Bay (Blue), and Porcelain (White). This diverse color palette aims to cater to a wide range of user preferences.

While the design and color options may be familiar, the Pixel 8a is expected to feature some notable upgrades under the hood. Rumors suggest that the device will be powered by Google’s Tensor G3 chipset, the same SoC that will likely debut in the flagship Pixel 8 series. Additionally, the Pixel 8a is rumored to sport a 6.1-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and peak HDR brightness of 1,400 nits.

In the camera department, the Pixel 8a is expected to retain the configuration of its predecessor, featuring a 64MP primary shooter and a 13MP ultra-wide-angle lens. This combination aims to deliver high-quality images and a versatile shooting experience for users.

Google Pixel 8a

Rounding out the anticipated specifications, the Pixel 8a is rumored to pack a 5,000mAh battery with support for 27W fast charging, ensuring a long-lasting and efficient power supply.

As Google gears up for the I/O 2024 event, the steady stream of Pixel 8a leaks suggests that the mid-range smartphone is poised to make its debut alongside the company’s other upcoming offerings. With its blend of familiar design, capable hardware, and diverse color options, the Pixel 8a aims to build on the success of its predecessor and solidify Google’s position in the highly competitive mid-range smartphone market.
