Apparently HBO spared no expense in doing justice to its adaptation of The Last of Us. Reports from The New Yorker claim that the series’ budget even exceeds that of the first five seasons of The Game of Thrones.
No precise figures are given, however the portal speaks of a pharaonic investment of “over a hundred million dollars,” confirming the 8-figure budget estimate for each episode that emerged in the summer of 2021.
These figures hint at HBO’s high expectations for the first season of The Last of Us, which is based on one of Sony Playstation’s most successful IPs ever. We just today learned that the game series has sold over 37 million copies worldwide since the first game was released on the PlayStation 3 in June 2013.
