The recently launched Helldivers 2 has seen some turbulence during its first days in the field. Arrowhead Game Studios’ sequel initially struggled to link up squad members across its PS5 and PC fronts. Matchmaking issues left many players stranded and unable to experience the cooperative action built into the franchise’s DNA.
Unhappy troopers voiced their frustration regarding connectivity problems and crashes hampering the experience. But Arrowhead worked swiftly, pushing out a PC hotfix to address matchmaking and stability. This rapid response patch is now live on PS5 as well, according to game director Mikael Eriksson.
In a message to the community, Eriksson explained additional improvements were made specifically targeting multiplayer matchmaking. He says a more complete solution remains in development requiring further testing first. So while not eliminated entirely, the inability to unite with fellow soldiers should occur less frequently following these updates.
Considering the high expectations set by the original and overwhelmingly positive critical reception, it’s reassuring to see the issues prioritized. Helldivers 2 at its core offers engaging combat built around camaraderie. Now with reinforcements stabilizing the frontline infrastructure, its multiplayer potential looks primed to shine through.

Players appreciate Arrowhead owning the problems and deploying rapid response assistance. It proves the studio’s commitment to fine-tuning the experience and should have intergalactic troopers back to spreading managed democracy in no time. Just a bit more patience as they work out the final kinks.
