Sony is poised to captivate PlayStation 5 users with the addition of a new survival game, “V Rising.” This move comes as a significant development for PS5, particularly since it currently lacks the popular survival game “Palworld.”
During the recent PlayStation State of Play, Sony unveiled that “V Rising,” a game that has already made waves in the gaming community, will be arriving on the PS5 platform later this year.
Breathing New Life into the Survival Genre on PS5
Developed by Stunlock Studios, known for their previous success with the MOBA game “Battlerite,” “V Rising” first emerged in 2022. It rapidly gained traction in the early access survival game scene, following in the footsteps of titles like “Valheim,” and selling an impressive three million copies within its first 18 months.
Set in a gothic world, “V Rising” places players in the role of a newly awakened vampire. The game revolves around players regaining their strength through a series of strategic gameplay elements. This includes constructing a gothic base, combating enemies using a suite of vampiric powers influenced by Stunlock’s previous titles, and navigating a day-night cycle where sunlight is a lethal threat to the player. “V Rising” offers both solo and co-op play, adding depth and versatility to the gaming experience.
While thematically different from “Palworld,” “V Rising” shares some similarities with the latter, particularly in terms of world bosses, the use of mounts for faster world traversal, base building around predefined real estate, and a system for capturing thralls. These elements, common in many survival games, make “V Rising” a valuable addition to Sony’s lineup, especially considering the console’s recent history of missing out on significant titles in this genre.
Speculations on a Full Release
The announcement of “V Rising” coming to PS5 also raises speculation about the game’s full release. Still in early access since its launch in May 2022, “V Rising” is approaching two years without a full launch. Stunlock Studios has expressed their intention not to prolong the early access phase more than necessary. Given the complexities of patching console releases compared to PC – a challenge also noted by the developers of “Palworld” – it seems likely that “V Rising” may see its version 1.0 release concurrently with its PS5 debut.
For PlayStation 5 owners, the arrival of “V Rising” represents an exciting expansion of their gaming options, especially in the survival genre, which has seen a surge in popularity. It’s a strategic move by Sony to fill a gap in their catalog and offer a fresh and engaging experience to their audience.
