Fans are psyched for the next chapters of Cobra Kai! The hit karate show on Netflix is wrapping up season 6, but don’t worry – the story is far from over. Josh Heald, one of the brains behind the series, teased some cool ideas they’ve got brewing.
In an interview, Heald said there’s lots they want to explore. “We never stop chatting about new ways to continue this franchise,” he shared. They’ve tossed around ideas like spin-offs set long ago or focusing on different characters. It’ll be up to Netflix and Sony to greenlight any future projects.
What makes Cobra Kai work so well is seeing how the characters evolve. Johnny Lawrence goes from bully to hero. Even old rivals of Daniel like Chozen and Mike find a way to make amends. But it was actor Pat Morita, best known as Mr. Miyagi, who first brought Daniel and Johnny back together after over 20 years apart.
Heald also said in another interview that the creative team has no shortage of tales they’d love to tell. Their passion for The Karate Kid universe, especially characters like Daniel, Mr. Miyagi, and Johnny, fuels their imaginations for more adventures.
Reflecting on their reunion after Pat’s passing, Daniel, aka Ralph Macchio, shared that he and Johnny actor William Zabka had lost touch for about 15-20 years. Seeing Zabka at the memorial “was a real comfort” and the start of their friendship as adults. Zabka added that Pat meant a lot to them both. Flying to his service together in Vegas was where “it all began” for a bond that’s grown stronger since.
While Cobra Kai wraps for now, those additional narratives the creators teased give fans hope. The Karate Kid’s rich lore could live on in engaging new chapters honoring its legacy. Don’t miss the first part of season 6 on Netflix July 18th!
