The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards crowned a record-setting night in Los Angeles as Apple TV+’s “The Studio” amassed 13 trophies, the most ever for a comedy in a single season. The satire also delivered multiple wins for creator-star Seth Rogen, who added lead actor, writing and directing to the show’s best comedy honor, telling the crowd, “I’m legitimately embarrassed by how happy this makes me.” Meanwhile, HBO’s “The Pitt” won drama series.
Acting races produced a mix of firsts and surprises. Noah Wyle earned his first Emmy for “The Pitt,” Britt Lower won lead actress in drama for “Severance,” and Tramell Tillman made history as the first Black man to win supporting actor in a drama for his turn on “Severance.” Katherine LaNasa took supporting actress in drama for “The Pitt.” In comedy, Jeff Hiller prevailed in supporting actor for “Somebody Somewhere,” and Hannah Einbinder won supporting actress for “Hacks.” Limited series belonged to Netflix’s “Adolescence,” which took the top prize; Stephen Graham won lead actor, and 15-year-old Owen Cooper became the youngest-ever supporting actor winner in the category. Cristin Milioti won lead actress in limited for “The Penguin.”
The telecast itself had a buzzy twist: host Nate Bargatze tied speech lengths to a charity tally for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. After the counter dipped below zero as winners ran long, the night ended with a $350,000 pledge, combining network and host contributions. Elsewhere in the program, “SNL 50: The Anniversary Special” won live variety special, “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” took scripted variety and writing, “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” won talk series, and “The Traitors” topped reality competition.
