Prime Video will launch Alliance, its first-ever daily original series worldwide, on June 26 — a structural experiment for the platform that also marks the first international adaptation of a Dutch reality format from one of television’s most prolific format creators.
The Hindi-language show, produced by Banijay Asia and airing across more than 240 countries and territories, draws on The Alliance, a game format developed by John de Mol through his Amsterdam-based Talpa Studios. De Mol is the architect of Big Brother and The Voice, two of the most widely sold unscripted formats in television history. Alliance represents Talpa’s latest attempt to build a globally exportable competition concept, and the Indian adaptation — its first anywhere — serves as a proof of concept for further rollouts.
The format pits 16 contestants against each other in pairs. Entering as duos, they quickly discover that no partnership is guaranteed to survive the game’s shifting loyalties and elimination mechanics. The series runs 42 episodes over six weeks, with new installments dropping daily at noon — a cadence Prime Video has never attempted before with an original production.
Bollywood actor Kunal Kemmu hosts the competition, stepping in front of a reality show camera for the first time after a career built largely in Hindi film comedy and thriller. Banijay Asia’s founder and Group CEO Deepak Dhar, whose company struck a two-year format representation deal with Talpa at MIPCOM, described the games as “ambitious, cinematic, and unlike anything we’ve attempted before,” adding that the format’s appeal lies in the constant tension between physical spectacle and psychological strategy.
Prime Video’s head of originals for India, Nikhil Madhok, framed the launch as a natural extension of what the streamer has built with The Traitors India — a growing appetite among Indian audiences for competition formats that reward cunning over performance. The platform has increasingly used Indian originals as global content, with Indian programming ranking in the top ten worldwide for 43 of 52 weeks in a recent year. Alliance arrives timed to Prime Day celebrations and will stream globally from day one.
