Prime Video’s summer drama “Sterling Point” closed out its first season with a paternity twist creator Megan Park says was rooted in her own life. The series, which Park developed with “Gossip Girl” and “The O.C.” veterans Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, reveals in its finale that Steven, the adoptive father of twins Annie and Connor, is actually the biological father of their long-lost half-sister Ramona — not Joe, the marina owner viewers had spent eight episodes suspecting.
The show follows Annie Jacobson, who travels to a remote Ontario island after inheriting it alongside her twin brother from a grandfather they never knew. There she meets Ramona, the secret daughter of Annie and Connor’s late birth mother, Goldie. What begins as a fight over the property unravels into a summer of buried family history.
For most of the season, the story points toward Joe, Goldie’s high school boyfriend, as Ramona’s father, since Steven’s infertility was presumed to be the reason he and his wife adopted Annie and Connor. Ramona instead notices she shares Steven’s color blindness, a genetic trait that upends the assumption and gets confirmed by a DNA test.
Park told Deadline the detail came directly from her own experience with the condition, which is rare in women, and that she built the reveal around it deliberately. The twist forces Steven to reckon with a child he never knew existed while reshaping how Annie and Ramona see their mother’s past.
The finale also splits the sisters onto different paths. Ramona, who initially pushed to sell the island, chooses instead to move to New York to build a relationship with Steven. Annie decides to stay behind, drawn to a quieter life and to learning more about Goldie, while her slow-building romance with local love interest Ellis finally takes hold. Connor, meanwhile, secretly reaches out to his and Annie’s birth parents and learns before the credits roll that his birth mother wants to reconnect, a thread Park left open for a potential second season.
Amazon has not yet confirmed whether “Sterling Point” will return, but Park has said there’s substantial story left to tell, particularly around Ramona’s unresolved relationship with her love interest Oona and Connor’s reunion with his birth family.
