Blizzard has unveiled more details about its upcoming Overwatch 2 Invasion update, scheduled for release in August. As part of this update, players will have the option to purchase a paid add-on that offers “permanent access” to three story missions, priced at $15.
Expanding Overwatch 2: Invasion Update
To provide a quick recap, Blizzard has promised a range of new features in Overwatch 2: Invasion, including new story missions, a fresh PVP core game mode, innovative ways to enhance hero skills, and the introduction of a new Support hero.
These story missions will transport players to iconic locations such as Rio de Janeiro, Toronto, and Gothenburg, each featuring expansive maps and intricate objectives. Players will engage with the notorious Null Sector group, with the story expected to continue in future seasons of the game.
Introducing the Overwatch Invasion Bundle
Blizzard has now revealed the details of the $15 Overwatch Invasion Bundle, granting players permanent access to the story missions. The bundle includes:
- Permanent access to the Overwatch 2: Invasion Story Missions
- 1000 Overwatch Coins (equivalent to the Premium Battle Pass, valued at $10)
- An exclusive Sojourn Legendary skin (valued at $19)
- Permanent access to Sojourn as a playable hero for new players, unlocked upon completing Story Mission challenges.
For those seeking a more comprehensive package, there is also a higher-priced $40 Ultimate Invasion Bundle. This bundle includes the same content as the Overwatch Invasion Bundle, along with 20 Battle Pass skips (valued at $30), an additional 1000 Overwatch Coins for a total of 2000 ($20 value), and two extra Legendary skins for Cassidy and Kiriko (valued at $38).
Unsurprisingly, the pricing has garnered criticism from many within the community. “These story missions better be the best thing you’ve ever put out. If they’re not and you’re charging people for them, good luck,” commented one user. Another added, “Charging for missions is insane. Get a grip.”
Upcoming Season and High-Fantasy Theme
Blizzard has also announced that Season 5 of Overwatch 2 is about to commence, offering players the opportunity to progress through the season Battle Pass with an “epic role-playing adventure” theme.
This season will introduce new challenges and game modes within a high-fantasy setting, ultimately unlocking an exclusive Mythic Adventurer skin for Tracer.
As the community eagerly awaits the arrival of Overwatch 2’s Invasion update, the decision to charge for additional story missions has sparked mixed reactions. Only time will tell if the content justifies the cost and meets the expectations of the player base.
