Imagine a stormy night with darkness all around. The doors are locked, and eerie sounds fill the air. Somewhere, a woman’s voice echoes, while a phone rings in the distance. Gunk-clogged sinks and children hiding in cupboards add to the unsettling atmosphere.

And if that’s not enough, the floors are crawling with writhing tentacles. Welcome to the world of Holstin, a Polish survival horror game that takes you on a spine-chilling journey through an isolated town. Currently undergoing a public playtest, this game is bound to make you feel like you’ve stepped into a Silent Hill-esque realm.

Pixel Art with a Twist

Holstin is a game that tricks your eyes in the best way possible. It might look like a 2D pixel art game from the start, but as you explore, you’ll realize that the environments are actually 3D, with dynamic lighting and interactive objects hidden around corners.

The game’s perspective can even shift dramatically, like when you’re caught in a shootout and the view smoothly switches to an over-the-shoulder angle.

What horrors await you in Holstin? The game teases “ungodly manifestations,” though it leaves the specifics to your imagination. The town’s streets are tainted with a filthy slime, and everything seems to be decaying from within. As a player, your goal is to locate your lost friend and escape the clutches of the town before its darkness consumes you as well.

Puzzles and Terrors

Holstin is more than jump scares—it’s a game of puzzles that demand your attention. You’ll find yourself scrutinizing circuit boxes and padlocks up close to uncover their mysteries. One puzzling task involves attaching a single lightbulb to various lamps in a house, where tentacles lurk and retreat in the presence of light.

The game’s characters are another layer of horror. The town’s inhabitants are losing their sanity, and to comprehend them, you must immerse yourself in their delusions and understand their inner worlds. This concept, eerie as it sounds, could remind you of dealing with regulars at a bar with unusual quirks.

Holstin is a game that promises to send shivers down your spine and plunge you into a world of chilling mystery. With its unique pixel art style and immersive horror elements, it’s certainly one to watch for fans of the genre. Who knows, it might even end up on the list of the best horror games, sparking debates and discussions among gaming enthusiasts.
