In an unexpected revival, the multiplayer online battle arena game Gigantic is slated to make a return in 2023 with Gigantic: Rampage Edition. Originally launched as an Xbox and PC exclusive in 2017 before shutting down a year later, Gigantic will now expand to PlayStation and receive new content and updates courtesy of publisher Gearbox and developer Abstraction Games.
Gigantic enchanted players through its colorful art style and chaotic 5v5 matches focused on protecting a guardian while attacking the enemy’s. Two teams of five heroes with unique abilities and playstyles battled across imaginative fantasy maps.
While Gigantic garnered a passionate fanbase, it failed to find commercial success as a free-to-play title, leading Microsoft to cease development in 2018. But this surprise resurrection offers hope that Gigantic can thrive under a new model.
Rampage Edition will release on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC as a premium release without microtransactions. All gameplay rewards and content will be unlocked simply by playing. This includes the original 23 heroes like Tyto the Swift, along with two new additions – Roland and Kajir.
Beyond the returning Clash mode, Rampage also introduces Rush – a faster-paced and action-heavy new mode catering to casual play. Custom matches and crossplay enable players to compete with friends across platforms. Two new maps will join classic ones to expand the battlefield variety.
Post-launch plans promise even more new heroes, skins, and a ranked mode. For veteran fans, it’s a dream come true to see Gigantic given a second lease on life. And new players can finally experience this tragically short-lived MOBA gem.
Gigantic: Rampage Edition proves dormant games can sometimes be resurrected like a phoenix from the ashes. When it arrives on April 9th, the MOBA arena will once again surge with vibrant, strategic competition.
