Actress Daisy Ridley recently suggested that her upcoming return to the popular Star Wars franchise could involve more than one new film. Ridley is set to reprise her role as Rey in an upcoming Star Wars movie currently titled “Star Wars: New Jedi Order.” In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ridley referred to “the new one/new ones,” implying there may be multiple future installments centered around her character.
This would mark Ridley’s comeback to the Star Wars franchise after 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker.” She noted that it has been some time since audiences last saw Rey on screen. Ridley said that while she is excited to portray the character again, it will also be different given the time that has passed for both herself and the character between films.
The “New Jedi Order” project is still in development following a change in screenwriters. It will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and continues the story of the Skywalker saga initially started in 1977. Ridley has previously said that the film is “evolving” as development continues. If her recent comments allude to multiple planned films, it could represent a shift in how Lucasfilm expands the core Star Wars narrative.
A sequel series primarily focused on Rey’s further adventures would effectively serve as Episodes X through XII in the overarching Skywalker story, even if not branded as such. This direct continuation of the central saga distinguishes it from standalone films like “Rogue One” and “Solo.” “New Jedi Order” is one of several Star Wars projects currently in the works at Lucasfilm as the studio looks to expand the franchise for years to come.
