Henry Cavill has revealed the first official images from Chad Stahelski’s long-developing “Highlander” reboot, offering a clear signal that the film has moved from development talk to cameras rolling. The photos, shared on Cavill’s Instagram, show him as Connor MacLeod—coat flared, sword at his side—framed in moody interiors that lean into candlelight and stone.
One image catches Cavill striding through what reads as a temple space, lanterns and candles clustered behind him. Another places him in a cathedral-like setting, his face marked with wear as he grips a sheathed katana. Cavill marked the post as a “first look,” thanking fans and teasing that he will speak more about the experience later.
Stahelski, who helped turn “John Wick” into a major action franchise, directs for United Artists and Amazon MGM Studios. Kerry Williamson and Mike Finch wrote the new script. The film pairs Cavill with Russell Crowe as mentor Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez and Dave Bautista as the Kurgan, with Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Marisa Abela, Jeremy Irons, Drew McIntyre, and Max Zhang also in the cast.
The project has carried real stop-and-start baggage. Production plans shifted after Cavill suffered an injury during preparation, pushing filming into 2026. Industry reporting has also pointed to budget tension during the film’s move from Lionsgate to Amazon MGM, underscoring the financial pressure that comes with mounting a large-scale, sword-heavy fantasy reboot. Stahelski has previously argued for a carefully planned approach that could support future expansion rather than a rushed one-off. No release date has been announced.
