Holly Willoughby Together (with Voy) arrives as a YouTube lifestyle series built around cooking, celebrity conversation, fashion, beauty and personal stories.
Its first episode places Holly Willoughby in a blush-pink studio kitchen with Stanley Tucci, a bowl of courgettes and enough running time to accommodate a minor awards ceremony. Together, they make Spaghetti alla Nerano, discuss British convenience food and repeatedly search the room for something that might count as a format.
The series carries extra weight because it is clearly designed as a fresh professional chapter for Willoughby. Her exit from This Morning still hangs around the edges, while later projects failed to give her a stable new home. YouTube offers freedom from broadcast rules, live television and commissioning executives. It also removes the autocue, the co-presenter and the magazine format that once protected her from dead air. Freedom has costs. Here, one of them is 50 minutes long.
Performing Spontaneity
The episode begins with Willoughby talking to the crew, searching for a bottle opener and declaring her enthusiasm for Tucci with a bleeped expletive. She pours wine, lowers the polish in her accent and allows handheld cameras to catch crew members standing around the set. Every choice announces that this version of Holly is looser, cheekier and less managed. The trouble is that the casualness feels carefully managed.
Willoughby has always been funniest when decorum gave her something to resist. On live daytime television, an accidental innuendo could derail a segment because she was trying desperately to keep the programme respectable. Here, the innuendo arrives on schedule. A joke about the shape of a courgette has no rules to break, so it simply sits there looking pleased with itself.
Her best moments come when the rebrand loosens its grip. She needles Tucci with a Rustlers microwave burger, listens as he inspects a Greggs sausage roll and laughs at his horror without pushing for a viral reaction. Her nervousness around the recipe also has an unforced sweetness.
She concentrates on slicing courgettes as if one uneven disc might trigger an international incident, and Tucci gently guides her through the process. That nervous energy is warmer than the staged profanity. Holly Willoughby remains perfectly capable of being likable. The show keeps interrupting her to prove it.
The Longest Pasta Course
A five-ingredient recipe cannot support a 50-minute episode without assistance. By the halfway point, assistance arrives in the form of wooden spoons carrying interview questions and a drawer packed with British packaged food.
Tucci reads questions about tea, potatoes and domestic habits from spoon handles, effectively interviewing himself while Willoughby cooks. Later, the pair inspect Pot Noodles, Fray Bentos pies and supermarket snacks. Tucci sniffs, reads labels and offers polite amusement. He understands the assignment: whenever the conversation stalls, he supplies another anecdote, opinion or raised eyebrow.
The episode’s pacing problem begins much earlier. Courgettes are sliced at devotional length. The induction hob becomes a recurring antagonist. Butter melts. Pasta waits. Cameras cut between static studio angles and loose handheld footage without creating much rhythm. Cooking programmes can find drama in timing, technique or error, yet this recipe asks little from either presenter. Once the vegetables enter the pan, the episode has already spent most of its available tension.
A tighter edit could turn the same footage into a light 25-minute chat. Tucci has enough charm, Willoughby has enough warmth and the food drawer contains enough mild chaos for a compact episode. At 50 minutes, each ingredient is asked to perform unpaid overtime. The Fray Bentos label reading near the 34-minute mark is where padding becomes plot. Television rarely admits defeat this clearly.
A Kitchen Nobody Lives In
The set aims for relaxed domestic intimacy, yet its beige surfaces, matching cookware and carefully placed appliances resemble a showroom waiting for a deposit. A camera inside the fridge captures Willoughby peering in for cheese, which is technically inventive and emotionally about as significant as checking a cupboard.
Handheld shots occasionally pull back to reveal the cramped production space and crew members nearby. Those glimpses are intended to make the programme feel homemade. Instead, they expose the gap between the series’ easygoing pose and its controlled construction. The kitchen feels artificial, the chatter feels prompted and the sponsor’s name sits inside the title like a guest who has already paid for dinner.
Voy receives its own promotional break, yet the episode does little to explain the company beyond its presence as a health brand associated with weight management. That omission matters because the show’s identity and commercial backing are fused from the opening title onward. Lifestyle television has always sold products. This one puts the receipt on the door.
The broader format may still improve. Future episodes are expected to move through fashion, beauty, conversation and other lifestyle categories, with guests including Katherine Ryan, Joanne McNally, Emma Bunton and Nicole Appleton.
More varied segments could give Willoughby the changing pace she once handled so comfortably on daytime television. For now, Holly Willoughby Together mistakes duration for intimacy and visible crew members for candour. The host has survived worse. The courgettes may need counselling.

Tucci keeps the premiere moving until wooden spoons and supermarket snacks are drafted as emergency co-hosts. Cut the runtime, trust the conversation and let Willoughby be recognisably herself. Fifty minutes for courgette pasta is less a format than a hostage situation.
