Pixar’s “Toy Story 5” drew 20 million views in its first five days on Disney+, placing it among the streamer’s ten biggest theatrical film premieres and atop its chart for premiere week.
The film arrived on the service September 23, 96 days after opening in theaters. That total beat two recent Disney hits. “Lilo & Stitch” logged 14.3 million global views over its first five days, and “The Devil Wears Prada 2” reached 15.2 million viewers across Disney+ and Hulu in August.
The debut adds to a franchise that already dominates the platform. The “Toy Story” films are the most-watched movie series on Disney+, with over two billion hours streamed worldwide. Since the trailer for the fifth film appeared, the sequel has generated 168 million of those hours.
The streaming numbers follow a record theatrical run. The film opened June 19 to $159.7 million in North America and a $310.2 million global weekend, the largest openings in both franchise and Pixar history. It has since grossed roughly $1.14 billion worldwide, making it the highest-grossing “Toy Story” entry without adjusting for inflation and the third-biggest release of 2026, behind “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.” The series has taken in over $4 billion at the box office. Andrew Stanton, who has written all five films, directed with Kenna Harris as co-director.
The story pits Woody, Buzz Lightyear and Jessie against Lilypad, a tablet that arrives in young Bonnie’s life with ideas of her own about how she should play.
The 20 million figure comes with a caveat. Disney released the film for digital purchase on August 18 and on disc September 22, so many households that wanted it had already found a way to watch. Industry observers had also expected cost-conscious families to skip theaters and wait for streaming, since an outing for four can approach $100. Whether those viewers account for a large share of the audience is not yet clear.
Disney has not released viewership beyond the first five days. Stanton has hinted at another installment.
