Ryan Gosling Teases Plans for The Fall Guy Sequel

Star Ryan Gosling shares that the team behind The Fall Guy has already envisioned a sequel, but its fate hinges on the first film's box office performance.

Despite a lukewarm box office debut, Ryan Gosling is already looking ahead to the possibility of a sequel to the recently released action-comedy “The Fall Guy.” In a recent interview with Fast Company, the Academy Award nominee revealed that he and the film’s team have not only mapped out a potential continuation of the story but have already written the plot for “The Fall Guy 2.”

“Oh yeah. We already – I mean, we love these characters so much that we wanted to know, just for ourselves, what happens to Colt and [Emily Blunt’s character] Jody after the movie ends? What’s the next phase for them? And we know exactly what it is,” Gosling shared, referring to his character, seasoned stuntman Colt Seavers, and Blunt’s role as director Jody Moreno.

The actor revealed that their attachment to the characters and the world they inhabit was so strong that they couldn’t resist exploring what lies ahead for Colt and Jody. “So hopefully the audience wants to know, too,” Gosling added, expressing his desire for fans to embrace the film and pave the way for a sequel.

Gosling’s enthusiasm for a follow-up is palpable, as he confidently stated, “The sequel sort of wrote itself. We already know [the story] intimately. We’re just hoping that people like this movie enough that we get to keep telling the story of these characters. We love them so much, and we love this world, and I feel confident that we can do it.”

However, the path to “The Fall Guy 2” may be fraught with challenges. Despite positive reviews from critics, the film has struggled at the box office, grossing only $66 million worldwide against a substantial production budget of around $130 million. This underwhelming performance could potentially put a sequel in jeopardy, much like Gosling’s previous collaboration with director Shane Black, “The Nice Guys,” which failed to spawn a franchise despite its cult following.

Loosely based on the 1980s TV series of the same name, “The Fall Guy” follows Gosling’s Colt Seavers, a stuntman tasked with an action-packed mission to track down a missing movie star, solve a conspiracy, and win back the love of his life, all while performing his day job’s daring stunts. Directed by former stuntman David Leitch and co-starring Emily Blunt, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Winston Duke, the film has garnered praise for its clever blend of action, comedy, and romance.

While Gosling and the team’s enthusiasm for continuing the story is evident, the fate of “The Fall Guy 2” ultimately rests in the hands of audiences. If the first installment can gain momentum and find its audience, the door may open for Gosling and his collaborators to bring their already-written sequel to life and explore the next chapter of Colt Seavers’ thrilling adventures.
