Classic game publisher Capcom plans to update some of its most beloved titles and release them on new consoles and computers. The company, known for hit fighting franchises like Street Fighter and Darkstalkers, wants more players to experience its retro games.
Capcom producer Shuhei Matsumoto said at a recent tournament the developer listens to fan requests. “We have many fighting games from our past people really want us to re-release,” he noted.
Matsumoto explained preservation and accessibility motivate this effort. Gamers who missed the original releases could now play on current hardware. “We aim to make our history accessible to new audiences,” he said. This strategy may also set the stage for future projects building upon these franchises.
One game high on Capcom’s list is Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, famous for deep combat. When asked about a remaster, Matsumoto expressed excitement. He welcomes the chance for more players to try classics many never saw before.
Capcom reflects growing interest in nostalgia and gaming history. Re-releasing retro favorites satisfies die-hard fans and introduces the rich library to newcomers. Other anticipated revivals could include Darkstalkers, Rival Schools and Capcom vs. SNK, though no announcements yet.
Matsumoto promised fans the company remains committed to its legacy. As technology evolves, more players may experience games that defined genres but only existed on dated systems of the past. Capcom hopes bringing retro gems forward opens doors to future installments building on those worlds and mechanics.
