Amazon’s official representative have assured in an interview that the new and upcoming series based on the God of War game series will be incredibly faithful to the original game.
The developers want to create a show that fans of the original will appreciate, but also encourage those unfamiliar with the adventures of Kratos to reach for the game.
Vernon Sanders – the head of the series division at Amazon Studios – disclosed the behind-the-scenes of the project during an interview with Collider.
“Adaptations are coming out particularly well for us, I’m talking about Invincible and The Boys in particular. After all, we’ve shot some of them, right? We also know that God of War has a very dedicated fan base. Whenever we take on an adaptation, we always look to see if there’s a big emotional charge and a decent story. I think God of War is the perfect material,” – Sanders said.
Moreover, he revealed that the plan is to spread the story presented in the game over several seasons of the series, so we’ll most likely get a very elaborate story.
Series showrunner Rafe Judkins and screenwriters Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby were expected to remain particularly faithful to the source material, according to him.
“The whole story focuses on the history of father and son, family ties and traversing a vast land. So, when our team came up with the idea for the first season and the whole series in general, they really wanted to follow the original, but also add something from themselves. If someone has never played the game, they will love the series and will very definitely grab a pad to see the original. I think it will be a great work,” – Sanders concluded.
Let’s recall that the aforementioned Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby previously worked on well-known and acclaimed productions such as “Human Children,” “Iron Man” and “The Expanse.”
In addition to writing the script, they will take on producer roles. This series is being developed as a collaboration between Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures.
