Rumors about the development of a PlayStation 5 Pro have circulated for some time, but many remain skeptical due to past instances of false reports. However, Insider Gaming appears confident that Sony is indeed working on an updated version of the console.
While Insider Gaming’s initial April reports were largely dismissed, Tom Henderson from the website has published a new article, claiming that, according to his sources, he is “100% certain that the PlayStation 5 Pro is currently in development.”
Henderson is so confident in this information that he anticipates major Sony developers will receive PlayStation 5 Pro dev-kits within a few months. Third-party developers are expected to gain access to these devices by late 2023.
A Potential Release Date for the PlayStation 5 Pro
If these reports are accurate, the PlayStation 5 Pro dev-kit distribution could pave the way for a wider release of Sony’s updated console.
According to Insider Gaming, the launch is projected for the fourth quarter of 2024. However, it’s essential to approach these reports with skepticism, as news about the PlayStation 5 Pro remains limited to unofficial sources and could be unfounded.
A Modified PlayStation 5 in the Works?
In addition to the PlayStation 5 Pro rumors, Insider Gaming suggests that a modified version of the PlayStation 5 will launch in September 2023, featuring a detachable Blu-ray disc drive.
This updated model, allegedly nearly identical in terms of components to the current console, would replace existing PlayStation 5 models on the market.
It is speculated that Sony may offer the new version both with and without the Blu-ray player, catering to those who have already transitioned entirely to digital distribution.
In summary, rumors about the development of a PlayStation 5 Pro and a modified PlayStation 5 have resurfaced, sparking intrigue and speculation among gamers.
As dev-kits are expected to reach developers in the coming months, it remains to be seen whether these reports are accurate or merely unfounded speculation. Until more concrete information emerges, it’s wise to treat these rumors with caution.
