NBC’s hit Chicago franchise is introducing a new face to its acclaimed police procedural dramedy Chicago P.D. Toya Turner, known for her roles on popular series like New Amsterdam and Warrior Nun, has joined the cast of Chicago P.D. as a new series regular for the upcoming twelfth season. Turner will take on the role of patrol officer Yara Page, potentially shaking up the established dynamic of Intelligence Unit.
The addition comes after major departures from the show’s ensemble last season. Detective Hailey Upton, played by Tracy Spiridakos for eight seasons, left her role at the 21st District. Jesse Lee Soffer also exited his longtime role as Detective Jay Halstead, creating sizeable boots for someone to fill. As a Chicago native with prior guest roles on P.D. sister shows Fire and Med, Turner is well-acquainted with Dick Wolf’s iconic franchise and could help bring fresh energy in the wake of these core cast changes.
Executive producer Gwen Sigan shared her enthusiasm for Turner’s talents, saying “Toya is a multifaceted actress who brings both gravity and humanity to every role. Her nuanced portrayal of Officer Yara Page will undoubtedly compel and engage audiences this upcoming season.”
With a background including acclaimed drama series, independent films, and a theater degree from Oxford University, Turner is no stranger to complex roles. She is described as bringing a streetwise perspective as patrol officer Yara Page. Fans are already speculating how she might interact with long-running characters like Detective Atwater, played by LaRoyce Hawkins.
As P.D. gears up for its landmark twelfth season launch, Turner’s presence promises to introduce intriguing new storylines and dynamics to Chicago’s elite police force. While big shoes were left to fill, Toya Turner’s skills and experience make her a perfect fit to join Dick Wolf’s gritty, authentic saga.
