Pixar’s 2004 animated film The Incredibles is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. The movie, which told the story of a family of superheroes living in hiding, was a major box office and critical success. The Incredibles grossed over $630 million worldwide and helped establish superhero films as a mainstay of animated filmmaking.
To commemorate the anniversary, merchandise company Funko is releasing a new line of Pop! collectible figures from the film. The figures stand about 3.5 inches tall and feature main characters like Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, and Edna Mode in their super suits. Funko is also including the villain Syndrome along with baby Jack-Jack portrayed as his monster form. These special anniversary figures can be pre-ordered for $11.99 each and are expected to ship in November.
The Incredibles’ success led to the much-anticipated sequel, Incredibles 2, in 2018. The follow-up film almost doubled the box office of the original, grossing $1.24 billion worldwide. While well-received by many, some felt Incredibles 2 did not quite match the original’s creative heights.
Nonetheless, director Brad Bird is now developing The Incredibles 3. Pixar’s Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter said in a recent interview that Bird is a passionate collaborator who requires time to fully develop his visions. Docter noted the third film’s story remains flexible as Bird works. It is unknown if original vocal cast members like Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter will return.
As The Incredibles remains popular among fans two decades later, the new collectibles and impending third installment demonstrate the ongoing appeal of this Pixar classic and the adventures of the extraordinary Parr family.
