Sony’s “28 Years Later” has debuted at No. 1 on the UK’s Official Film Chart for the week ending September 10, leading the nation’s home-entertainment purchases on digital platforms ahead of its physical disc rollout later this month. The chart compiles weekly consumer sales across digital downloads and packaged media, placing the Danny Boyle–directed sequel atop a market snapshot that excludes subscription streaming.
The thriller opens its home-video run in a competitive frame: “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” settles into second place after a prior stint at No. 1, while a fresh cinema release in “The Conjuring” franchise lifts 2021’s “The Devil Made Me Do It” back into the Top 10. The result underscores how theatrical momentum and franchise activity spill into the transactional market, where ownership—via download or disc—continues to reward breakout genre titles.
Physical editions of “28 Years Later” are scheduled to reach UK retailers in late September, positioning the film for another sales surge once 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and SteelBook versions arrive. Retail listings point to a September 22–23 window, which would extend the film’s availability beyond premium digital and rental storefronts that have driven early demand.
The film’s strong transactional debut follows a robust theatrical run in the territory, where it opened No. 1 with an estimated £4.7 million in the UK and Ireland, part of a worldwide gross that has pushed the franchise back into the cultural foreground nearly two decades after its last installment.
Directed by Boyle from a screenplay by Alex Garland and led by Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ralph Fiennes, the new chapter reframes the series through a younger protagonist and a Britain still scarred by the Rage Virus.
With the follow-up “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple” dated for early 2026, the property is set to remain visible through the autumn’s home-entertainment cycle—first via downloads, then via discs—reinforcing the strategy studios use to extend theatrical success into collector-oriented sales windows.
