Payday 3, the eagerly awaited sequel to the beloved FPS game developed by Starbreeze, will make its initial debut on Steam using Unreal Engine 4 (UE4). However, the developer has announced that it has plans to transition the game to Unreal Engine 5 (UE5) post-launch.
This revelation follows the unveiling of the first Payday 3 gameplay at the Xbox Games Showcase, accompanied by additional information regarding season passes, microtransactions, and Payday 3 DLC.
Returning to the Heist-Filled Action
Set in the bustling streets of New York City, Payday 3 continues the series’ tradition of high-stakes, cooperative bank-heist action. Players will once again team up with friends to execute daring heists, amass wealth, and create customized characters and loadouts.
While the system requirements for Payday 3 have been revealed, it remains uncertain how the transition from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5 might impact the existing specifications.
The Engine Development Plan
Starbreeze sheds light on the decision to launch Payday 3 on Unreal Engine 4, stating that it aligns with their development timeline. The studio intends to upgrade to Unreal Engine 5 after the game’s release.
Notable games that also utilize Unreal Engine 5 include the recently released Layers of Fear and the upcoming survival game, The Day Before. Additionally, even the popular title Fortnite made the transition to Unreal Engine 5 in 2021.
Microtransactions, DLC, and Crossplay
In a comprehensive Q&A session, Starbreeze confirms that Payday 3 will feature microtransactions in the form of Payday Coins. However, these transactions will solely pertain to cosmetic upgrades that have no impact on gameplay.
The game will support crossplay across all platforms, enabling players to join forces regardless of their chosen gaming system. Furthermore, esteemed composer Gustavo Coutinho will return to deliver his musical talent to the Payday series once more.
Expanding the Heisting Experience
Starbreeze also unveils its plans for Payday 3 DLC, promising four additional heists, four tailor packs, and four weapon packs within the game’s first year. Players who opt for the Payday 3 Standard Edition will have the option to upgrade to the Silver and Gold versions.
For those seeking a cost-effective option, discounted prices for all three versions are available. Don’t miss the chance to grab Payday 3 at a reduced rate before its anticipated release date on September 21.
Payday 3 sets the stage for an exciting heist-filled adventure, initially launching on Unreal Engine 4 before transitioning to Unreal Engine 5. Starbreeze’s commitment to providing a seamless engine transition demonstrates their dedication to enhancing the gameplay experience.
With microtransactions limited to cosmetic upgrades, the focus remains on the cooperative thrill of heists and strategic customization.
The introduction of DLC packs ensures a steady stream of content for players to enjoy throughout the first year. As the release date draws nearer, fans eagerly anticipate immersing themselves in the gripping world of Payday 3’s criminal escapades.
