Chinese Tech Company Unveils Intriguing Processor with Striking Similarity to Intel’s Model

PowerLeader's Powerstar P3-01105 CPU Bears a Striking Resemblance to Intel's Core i3-10105(F)

Last Saturday, Chinese computer manufacturer PowerLeader introduced a new processor, the Powerstar P3-01105 CPU, alongside a desktop computer.

The company proudly showcased its first-generation processor during a press conference. Interestingly, this processor bears a strong resemblance to a particular Intel model.

PowerLeader’s processor is built on its proprietary “storm core” architecture, which the company claims to be highly efficient.

The CPU is compatible with the x86 architecture and boasts excellent support for Windows. Intriguingly, this processor’s design and specifications are strikingly similar to Intel’s Core i3-10105(F) processor.

No Intel Partnership Mentioned in Chinese Media

Chinese news outlets, such as ITHome, have not reported any collaboration between PowerLeader and Intel for rebranding purposes.

Instead, PowerLeader’s management has stated that their first-generation Powerstar chips are designed specifically for everyday desktop users across various sectors, including government, education, energy, industry, finance, medical care, gaming, and retail.

Twitter “Investigation” Identifies Similarities

An informal investigation on Twitter quickly revealed that the Powerstar P3-01105 CPU might be a repurposed Intel processor from the Comet Lake architecture, specifically the Core i3-10105(F).

This conclusion was drawn based on the processors’ identical physical design and nearly identical markings, even down to the QR code.

There are two potential theories explaining why PowerLeader would market this processor as its own creation. Firstly, Chinese tech companies can receive attractive subsidies when developing and introducing domestically-produced products to the market.

Secondly, Intel might be using PowerLeader as a cover to sell its processors under a different brand due to trade restrictions imposed by the US government.

What do you think about this situation? Which theory seems more plausible? We welcome your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below!
