The marketing campaign for Cities: Skylines 2 continues to gain momentum, with the developers at Colossal Order revealing a new trailer that delves into the transportation systems featured in this highly anticipated city-builder.
In the latest teaser, Colossal Order introduces and explains a plethora of transportation systems that players can utilize within Cities: Skylines 2. The extended trailer showcases new mechanics and introduces different modes of transportation.
Different Types of Transport for Different Purposes
A significant portion of the trailer focuses on discussing the numerous methods of transporting people and goods within the game. Some of the key highlights include:
- Buses: These are affordable and flexible options, although they are susceptible to disruptions caused by road congestion.
- Trams: Less affected by traffic jams compared to buses, trams require more expensive infrastructure.
- Metro: Utilizing an underground tunnel system, the metro occupies minimal space on the surface.
- Trains: Ideal for international transportation, trains offer efficient connectivity.
- Water Transport: Enabling the delivery of large quantities of cargo, water transport requires extensive port systems, albeit at a slower pace.
- Air Transport: Offering fast and flexible travel, air transport demands substantial investments in expensive infrastructure.
Balancing Transportation Systems
These transportation systems are designed to complement one another, and skilled city managers will be able to compensate for the weaknesses of certain systems by capitalizing on the strengths of others. Striking the right balance between these modes of transport will be crucial for building thriving and efficient cities.
The latest material from Colossal Order also reveals several new mechanics related to transportation that have been implemented in Cities: Skylines 2:
- Each type of land transport will require an appropriate depot, ensuring efficient operation of public transportation.
- The new routing system will offer increased flexibility, allowing players to freely direct the paths of specific vehicles.
- The connection system will facilitate efficient linking of key infrastructure elements and transport hubs.
- New interface elements, including the transport preview panel and line panel, will enhance spatial orientation and enable more efficient traffic organization.
