An interesting job listing recently appeared on Naughty Dog’s website. Interesting because of the fact that it may possibly bring new news on The Last of Us Multiplayer or “Factions.”
It is supposed to be a standalone production not specifically related to The Last of Us, yet set in the same world. The thing that is supposed to set it apart is the focus on multiplayer gameplay.
So far we haven’t found out much about the project itself. But we can say with certainty that the game is in fact being developed and in theory should make its debut relatively soon.
Although not sure about other The Last of Us fans, but we loved the multiplayer in the first installment ourselves, so we’re very keen to see what Naughty Dog is developing for us this time around.
As of now, we actually have one graphic from the game and that’s it. The Last of Us Multiplayer, however, could turn out to be a completely free-to-play game, which will be distributed on a free-to-play basis.
Actually, there’s a good chance that we will play it for free, and the whole thing might be Sony’s first significant entry into the game-services branch.
For a long time, the company has insisted that it plans to explore an increasing number of such items. This is partially good news, and partially – everything will depend on micropayments.
A new job listing can be found on the developer’s website. Under the “bonus skills” section, they list “proven experience in a production role supporting a AAA, free to play, live title.”
Pretty clearly, the rest of the job description suggests that it’s about the aforementioned Factions, so chances are good that PlayStation doesn’t want us to pay for the title.
This is hardly surprising – after all, paid games today that rely solely on multiplayer are not that much of a deal. What do you think about the Last of Us Multiplayer as a free-to-play game?
