However, a Disney Parks blog post inadvertently set the gaming community abuzz by mentioning a “late 2024” release, a detail that Ubisoft quickly rectified to maintain the general 2024 schedule.
“Star Wars Outlaws” is poised to be a thrilling addition to the Star Wars gaming canon. The game, developed by Ubisoft Massive Entertainment, invites players into a narrative set between the events of “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi.”
It centers around the character Kay Vess, an emerging scoundrel, and her companion Nix, as they navigate the galaxy in pursuit of freedom and a fresh start. The game promises a rich experience, allowing players to explore both iconic and new planets across the Star Wars universe, like Akira and Tatooine.
The Disney Parks blog post, penned by Thomas Smith, Director of Editorial Content, initially included a blurb about the game in a list of 24 company-related experiences slated for the next 12 months.
This list spanned various entertainment forms, from a new attraction based on “The Princess and the Frog” to a theatrical production inspired by “The Little Mermaid” and special events themed around Marvel and Pixar. Amidst these announcements, the specific mention of a “late 2024” release for “Star Wars Outlaws” stood out, albeit briefly.
Ubisoft was quick to respond to this inadvertent reveal. In an email to Kotaku, a spokesperson from Ubisoft clarified that the mentioned timing was incorrect.
The Disney Parks blog post was promptly updated to remove any reference to “late 2024” or “late this year,” reverting to the original, more ambiguous “2024” target. While the specific release date remains uncertain, the correction reaffirms that the game is still on track for a release sometime this year.
“Star Wars Outlaws” was first announced in January 2021 and officially revealed in June 2023. The game is set to offer a unique experience within the Star Wars universe, focusing not on an epic, unfinishable RPG, but rather on a heist story that promises both adventure and intrigue.
