Simon Pegg, the British actor and writer known for his collaborations with director Edgar Wright, has recently sparked excitement among fans by hinting at a potential new project with his long-time creative partner. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Pegg revealed that he and Wright are in the early stages of developing their fourth film together.
The duo, along with actor Nick Frost, gained international recognition with their “Three Flavors Cornetto Trilogy,” consisting of “Shaun of the Dead” (2004), “Hot Fuzz” (2007), and “The World’s End” (2013). Each film in the trilogy featured a different flavored Cornetto ice cream, connecting the otherwise unrelated storylines.
Pegg emphasized that a new collaboration with Wright is a matter of “when, not if.” However, he acknowledged the challenge of aligning their busy schedules to dedicate the necessary time for writing. “The biggest challenge that we have right now is finding a moment to get together and spend six, seven weeks, to get our first draft out and come up with the idea,” Pegg explained.
While fans may be eager for a new installment in the Cornetto series, Pegg also addressed the possibility of a “Shaun of the Dead” reboot. He expressed strong opposition to the idea, stating that both he and Wright would be “incensed” if Universal Pictures, which owns the rights to the film, decided to remake it without their involvement.
Pegg described “Shaun of the Dead” as “incredibly personal,” revealing that many elements of the film were inspired by his and Wright’s real-life experiences. “There’s so much of us in that film,” Pegg said, explaining how the characters’ relationship with their local pub mirrored his own life at the time.
The news of a potential fourth collaboration has left fans speculating whether it will be an extension of the Cornetto Trilogy or an entirely new concept. Either way, the prospect of Pegg and Wright reuniting for another project has generated significant buzz in the film community.
As both Pegg and Wright continue to juggle their successful individual careers, fans will have to wait patiently for more concrete details about their next joint venture. In the meantime, Pegg can be seen in the hit series “The Boys” on Prime Video, while Wright’s most recent directorial efforts include “Baby Driver” and “Last Night in Soho.”
