Kevin Costner has hit a roadblock with his big Western movie series “Horizon.” The second part of the story was set to come out in theaters in August, but now the release has been delayed indefinitely.
The movie studios behind “Horizon” decided to push back the second film after the first one didn’t do as well as they hoped in theaters. Called “Chapter 1,” it only made $11 million its opening weekend even though it cost $100 million to make!
This is especially rough because Costner put $38 million of his own money into making the series. He must have really believed in the story to risk so much.
The studios say fans will get more chances to see “Chapter 1” with its release on streaming and digital sites. It will be available to rent online starting in July. They hope more people watch it this way and get excited for the next parts.
Costner wanted “Horizon” to tell the epic story of how the West was settled in America over four films. But the delay of the second movie now has people wondering if we’ll ever see the full tale.
Hollywood experts note that betting so big on a multiple-part film is risky these days. Audiences have more choices for watching movies and TV. If the first film doesn’t catch on, it’s hard to keep the whole project going.
