Mike Myers made an unexpected appearance on Saturday Night Live, using the stage to express his stance on Canada’s political status.
During the closing moments of the episode, Myers stood next to host Shane Gillis and unzipped his vest to reveal a T-shirt that read “Canada Is Not for Sale” alongside a Canadian flag. The message appeared to respond to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s suggestion that Canada could become the 51st state.
This marks Myers’ second appearance on SNL in recent weeks. He was also part of the SNL50 anniversary special, where he reprised his Coffee Talk character, Linda Richman. His latest visit included a role in the episode’s cold open, where he portrayed Elon Musk. The sketch featured James Austin Johnson as Trump, Bowen Yang as J.D. Vance, and Mikey Day as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The segment satirized political figures and their handling of foreign relations.

Martin Short, another Canadian comedian, also referenced recent U.S.-Canada tensions during the SNL50 special. As part of a joke, he was “arrested” onstage and called out the names of other well-known Canadians, including Myers, Jim Carrey, and Catherine O’Hara, in a lighthearted plea.
Gillis, hosting for the second time, had previously been removed from the SNL cast in 2019 after resurfaced podcast comments led to controversy. He acknowledged this history during his previous monologue. Since then, he has gained a following through stand-up and his Netflix series Tires.
The episode was the first since SNL50, which attracted a large audience. Next week, Lady Gaga will serve as both host and musical guest.
