Tovah Feldshuh has denied that a political disagreement with her co-star Adam Brody is causing friction on the set of Netflix’s “Nobody Wants This,” saying their differences will stay off the set. Feldshuh, 77, answered a Threads post Saturday that claimed tensions were emerging on the show. “Tensions are NOT RISING. Profound differences of opinion are,” she wrote. She said she enjoys filming the series and hopes Netflix orders a fourth season. The third season arrived on the streamer last week.
The dispute traces to a September interview in which Brody, who is Jewish, addressed the war in Gaza after years of keeping his views private. He told GQ to “put me down as thinking it’s a genocide” and as wanting a free Palestine. He added that it was awful so much death and misery had come first, but said the situation felt like it was reaching a breaking point.
Feldshuh, who is also Jewish and plays Brody’s onscreen mother, Bina, rebutted him in an interview with the New York Post this month. Accusing Jewish people of genocide is “wild,” she said, arguing that such claims do particular harm when they come from Jewish people with large platforms. She called the continued existence of the state of Israel crucial to the democratic world.
Her tone toward Brody stayed personal. She said she loves him and disagrees with him, and that both positions can stand. Her task on set, as Bina and as herself, is to be kind to her colleagues, she said, and to “switch channels” and do her job if politics come up.
The show’s creator, Erin Foster, has also weighed in. She said on the “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast that she and Brody do not share the same beliefs on the conflict and called the situation “complicated.” Foster based the series, a romantic comedy about a rabbi and a podcaster played by Kristen Bell, on her own marriage. Netflix has not publicly commented, and Brody has not responded to Feldshuh’s remarks in the coverage reviewed.
