Unlike in season 1, where law enforcement figures provided some balance, his former military team in season 2 largely encouraged his approach. Season 3 takes a different approach. In episode 4, DEA Agent Guillermo Villanueva openly challenges Reacher’s tendency to leave a trail of bodies behind. While Reacher and Duffy initially believe their targets are running a drug operation, they soon uncover that Beck and McCabe are actually trafficking weapons. This revelation suggests that federal authorities have been tracking the case for longer than expected.
During a search of Beck’s home, his men find that a French maid, Annette, has been sending messages to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). The discovery exposes her as an informant, leading to her immediate execution. Reacher is ordered to dispose of the body, performing the task with clear reluctance.
