Aleksandro A24 wrapped principal photography this month on Jesse Eisenberg’s untitled musical comedy, marking a rapid turnaround since cameras rolled in April at various community theatre venues and studio stages. The film, which reunites Eisenberg with producers Emma Stone’s Fruit Tree banner and A24, stars Julianne Moore as a withdrawn woman suddenly thrust into a local musical production by Paul Giamatti’s charismatic director.
Halle Bailey, Havana Rose Liu and Bernadette Peters join an ensemble that also features Bonnie Milligan, Colton Ryan, Lilli Cooper and Maulik Pancholy, reflecting Eisenberg’s ambition to blend veteran talent with emerging voices. Moore––who announced “that’s a wrap” on social media––revealed she performed all her own singing, underscoring the production’s commitment to authenticity.
Eisenberg, who wrote the screenplay and original songs, told Variety the project is “completely joyful and unhinged,” aiming to “celebrate the chaos and catharsis of community theatre”. Choreography is led by Tony Award winner Andy Blankenbuehler, while Steven Gizicki and Bill Sherman oversee music supervision and executive production respectively, signaling a high-caliber creative team.
Drew Daniels, fresh from his work on the acclaimed thriller Anora, serves as cinematographer, tasked with capturing both intimate rehearsal scenes and large-scale musical numbers. The premise follows Moore’s character as she slips into a leading role, losing herself amid the eccentricities of ensemble performance—a narrative framed to explore identity and artistic liberation.
This outing represents Eisenberg’s third directorial feature after When You Finish Saving the World and A Real Pain, with critics noting his evolving voice from neurotic drama to buoyant comedy. The film, currently untitled, is slated for a 2026 theatrical release by A24, positioning itself as a potential awards contender for its inventive fusion of humor and emotional depth.
