After almost a decade of anticipation, Dead Island 2 is finally ready for its debut on various gaming platforms. The game has received a mix of reviews from both critics and fans, with some praising its zombie-filled adventure and others disappointed by its lack of innovation.

Many reviewers have given the game a decent rating, with IGN, GameSpot, VGC, PCGamesN, and Wccftech all rating the game around 7 out of 10.

Windows Central and VG247 have given slightly higher ratings of 4.5 out of 5 and 4 out of 5, respectively. These reviews have noted that while the game may not bring anything groundbreaking to the table, its combat system and zombie mechanics are enjoyable and well-executed.

However, there is a low rating from a respected website, with PC Gamer rating the game at only 55 out of 100. The reviewer found the game lacking a “backbone” and became bored after just 10 hours of playing. They even questioned if there was any point in continuing.

Dead Island 2: Stuntwoman Carla Revealed in New Trailer

“Aside from the impressive technical level, it’s hard to find a reason to recommend Dead Island 2. Although the combat is responsive and intuitive, it unfortunately does not make up for the game’s numerous shortcomings – especially since the gameplay hardly evolves over the twenty hours of the campaign,” reads the review.

Despite the mixed reviews, one thing that critics seem to agree on is that the combat system is impressive. The FLESH system makes the wounds on opponents visible, creating a realistic experience for players.

Dead Island 2 is set in a satirical, zombie-infested version of Los Angeles, and reviewers have praised the game’s sense of humor and its ability to create a fun and enjoyable atmosphere.

“Dead Island 2 is hysterical, L.A.-soaked satire that does most things well enough, but it’s a bit like walking down the Hall of Fame of zombie games I’ve already played without adding a lot of new ideas,” reads IGN’s review.

“For a game that’s been in development for over a decade, it’s a small miracle that Dead Island 2 even came out. The fact that it came in a state where players can enjoy it for the duration of the story and beyond – even if the story itself is just an extra – speaks well of the team that brought it to the finish line,” GameSpot noted.

Overall, while Dead Island 2 may not be a game-changer in the world of zombie games, it offers an enjoyable and entertaining experience for those who love the genre.

Fans of the original Dead Island game will likely appreciate the improvements made to the combat system and the satirical take on Los Angeles. Dead Island 2 will be available on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and Xbox One starting from April 21.
