In the dynamic world of co-op horror gaming, Phasmophobia, developed by Kinetic Games, has carved out a unique niche. Known for its engaging supernatural challenges, the game has been a favorite for horror enthusiasts. Recently, Kinetic Games has turned its attention to addressing player feedback and improving the overall gaming experience with an upcoming update.

Kinetic Games has shown a commendable commitment to refining Phasmophobia, particularly after the mixed reactions to its Ascension update a few months ago. The developer’s recent preview showcases a thoughtful approach to game development, with a focus on enhancing the progression system and the overall mechanics of the game.

The proposed changes are substantial, with Kinetic Games acknowledging the slow leveling process. In response, the game will soon require less XP for each level, allowing players to progress more swiftly. This change is complemented by modifications to the tier unlocks system, enabling the simultaneous unlocking of multiple tiers.

This adjustment aims to streamline the process of upgrading equipment, although it is noted that some upgrades may become more expensive to balance the ease of access.

Prestige, a somewhat overlooked aspect of Phasmophobia, is also getting a revamp. The developers are introducing incentives like prestige-related cosmetics, free XP, and extra in-game cash for purchasing equipment. This move is designed to make the prestige feature more appealing and rewarding for players.

Equipment Overhaul and Accessibility Enhancements

A major highlight of the upcoming update is the overhaul of evidence-gathering tools. Key instruments like the EMF reader, thermometer, and DOTS projector are set to receive significant tweaks. The EMF reader, for instance, will have improved functionality to prevent the needle from inaccurately surpassing the maximum reading. The DOTS projector is being made more user-friendly, an adjustment that will likely be welcomed by the game’s community.

However, the planned changes to the thermometer have sparked some debate among players. Kinetic Games intends to introduce variability in thermometer readings to reduce its current level of accuracy. This decision has been met with mixed reactions, as some players, myself included, consider the realistic and reliable nature of the thermometer readings as a vital aspect of the game’s appeal. The online discussions on platforms like Reddit reflect this sentiment, highlighting the community’s attachment to the authenticity of this tool.

In terms of accessibility, the update promises significant strides forward. Enhancements to flashlights and igniters will aid players navigating dark environments, and headlight improvements, including audio cues for ghost interference, will benefit hearing-impaired users. These changes reflect a broader commitment to making Phasmophobia more inclusive and enjoyable for a wider audience.

Anticipation and Hopes for the Future

Phasmophobia

As the Phasmophobia community eagerly awaits these changes, the developer’s openness to feedback and willingness to adapt is a positive sign. Players can look forward to a more refined and engaging gaming experience, with the hope that further feedback, especially regarding the controversial thermometer changes, will be considered.

In the meantime, horror gaming fans can explore other co-op games to enjoy with friends or delve into more ghostly adventures while anticipating the next chapter in Phasmophobia’s evolution.
