WWE is truly an incredibly storied and extravagant organization. So many years, so many personalities, and so many different happenings have led to this company – managed by cult figure Vince McMahon – being the source of much animated discussion beyond just wrestling.

Many of these are so intricate that even absurd or conspiratorial allegations arose among fans – nevertheless, in every lie there is a grain of truth…Or how do you say? Here are the 5 craziest WWE conspiracy theories!

5. The Downfall of WCW – an Elaborate Plan?

Kevin Nash and Scott Hall

American wrestling in the mid-90s saw the ratings war between WCW and WWF (now WWE). Back then, the WWF was even having trouble following WCW in terms of ratings.

Then there was this: in 1996, two absolute charisma bombs and cornerstones of the company, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall, abandoned McMahon’s ship to join WCW. There were higher paychecks in the cards.

But what if this was not a business decision by today’s WWE Hall-of-Famer, but rather a clever strategy by Vince McMahon? Rumor has it that Nash and Hall, who were part of the legendary nWo stable, were sent by Vince to poison WCW from within.

WCW turned into a messy product at the turn of the millennium and was acquired by the WWF in 2001. Both wrestlers coincidentally returned to the market leader in 2002.

Probably more likely to be labeled as a pure conspiracy. Or was the WWE chairman the one behind it after all? Stay tuned for more insane WWE conspiracy theories.

CM Punk's Pipebomb

Anytime a wrestling story is staged, wrestlers stay in character or just act as if what is being portrayed is real, it’s called kayfabe. In WWE, it’s really an absolute given that kayfabe is always preserved.

However, CM Punk didn’t care about this principle at all on June 27, 2011, as he grabbed a mic out of nowhere on a Raw show and started spilling the beans. During his famous Pipebomb, Punk broke all boundaries that separated reality from WWE.

Mentioning rival promotions NJPW and ROH, making rather unkind remarks about the McMahon family and nasty words towards fans – The “Straight Edge Superstar” was breaking every taboo. Until his microphone was finally muted.

It is evident: a dissatisfied world-class wrestler expresses his displeasure. However, conspiratorial tongues now claim that this segment was arranged and planned by WWE. A very delicate generating of attention, so to speak. It remains difficult to answer whether Punk simply blurted or Vince McMahon once again had a brilliant idea.

Triple H and Stephanie McMahon

Paul Levesque – better known as Triple H – has been one of the most influential personalities in WWE. Not only is he one of the most successful wrestlers of all time, but also founder of the developmental league NXT, and since 2013 “Executive Vice President of Talent, Live Events and Creative”.

This means, in plain language, that Paul Levesque is quite possibly the most powerful man in the company behind Vince McMahon.

Not exactly unimportant here might be his marriage with the daughter of the Chairman (Stephanie McMahon).

In fact, many critics of the 14-time WWE World Champion have gone one step further and say he only married the 40-year-old to gain more influence in the company.

Do you think “The Game” is really playing such a mendacious game? Not likely. The couple have been married for almost 15 years and have three daughters together. Stay tuned for more insane WWE conspiracy theories.

Chris Benoit

The following conspiracy theory is very gloomy. Because rather than putting to rest the already tragic story of Chris Benoit’s death, there are indeed many even absurd myths regarding the “true cause” of his departure.

In 2007, Benoit – who was one of the best technical wrestlers of his time – allegedly killed first his wife Nancy together with their common son Daniel (7 years old) and then himself. It is officially called: double murder by Chris Benoit followed by suicide.

While no evidence exists, a theory emerged after the death of the Benoit family, claiming that former WCW booker and wrestler Kevin Sullivan was the real killer. That opinion prevailed because Nancy – then still Sullivan – was married to him. Then Benoit started an affair with her and so a few years later Nancy Sullivan became Nancy Benoit.

While there are approaches, it is very ghoulish that Sullivan has to deal with completely unproven rumors years after the fact. Stay tuned for more insane WWE conspiracy theories.

The Montreal Screwjob

In wrestling, a work means performing an action or segment according to plan, after all parties involved have been initiated. However, on November 9, 1997, during the WWF World Heavyweight Championship match between Shawn Michaels and the title holder Bret Hart, this was supposedly not the case.

This is because Hart, the reigning champion before the match, originally believed he would be able to take the title to rival company WCW, which was the destination in which he planned to leave the WWF. Naturally, Vince McMahon could not allow this to happen. His own World Title in the hands of dangerous competition? Not a good idea.

Therefore, he let the “Showstopper” win the title. Michaels used Hart’s own finishing move – the Sharpshooter – on him. Referee Earl Hebner pronounced the fight over, even though he didn’t even tap out!

Hart was furious. He spat at Vince McMahon, who lurked near the ring, drew the letters “W C W” in the air and looked stunned. However, some fans weren’t buying the WWF’s curiosity. Therefore, Hart was said to have known very well and to have performed a last service for his long-time employer with this spectacle.

The same goes here as for CM Punk’s Pipebomb. Be it real or fake, McMahon used this action to establish himself as the character of the boss Mr. McMahon, and Michaels as the bad guy, and thus created a historic hype.
