Taylor Swift has been subpoenaed by legal representatives for Justin Baldoni in a developing dispute involving the production of It Ends With Us, a film adaptation starring Baldoni and Blake Lively. The case involves allegations made by Lively against Baldoni and a counterclaim filed in response. Swift’s representatives have described her subpoena as an effort to generate media attention unrelated to the legal matters at hand.

A spokesperson for Swift clarified that her connection to the project was limited to licensing her song “My Tears Ricochet” for use in the film. “Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie, she was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, she did not score the film, she never saw an edit or made any notes on the film, she did not even see It Ends With Us until weeks after its public release,” the statement said. The representative emphasized that Swift had no direct participation beyond the use of one track, noting that 19 other artists were also featured on the soundtrack.

The subpoena arrives in the midst of a broader dispute between the film’s co-stars. Lively has accused Baldoni of sexual harassment and of attempting to damage her public standing through coordinated messaging. Her attorney, Mike Gottlieb, confirmed that she intends to testify. He indicated that other individuals will also provide supporting testimony, though no names were disclosed.

Baldoni, who also directed the film, has filed a counterclaim accusing Lively of defamation and civil extortion. His legal filing references script disagreements during pre-production, including a scene on a rooftop that Lively requested be revised. According to the complaint, Baldoni visited Lively’s New York City home in 2023 to discuss the changes and was surprised to find Swift and Ryan Reynolds in attendance. The complaint alleges that both expressed support for Lively’s suggestions.

Text messages included in court documents cite Swift’s name and describe the encounter. In one exchange, Lively referred to Swift and Reynolds as her “dragons,” invoking Game of Thrones to describe their support. “If you ever get around to watching Game of Thrones, you’ll appreciate that I’m Khaleesi, and like her, I happen to have a few dragons,” the message read. “For better or worse, but usually better. Because my dragons also protect those I fight for.”

Baldoni’s written response at the time expressed agreement with the revisions. “I really love what you did. It really does help a lot. Makes it so much more fun and interesting. (And I would have felt that way without Ryan and Taylor),” he wrote. The message concluded with a wink emoji and further praise of Lively’s input.

The court filing also references a voice message Baldoni sent to Lively after the script meeting. The recording lasted over six minutes and included a personal comment referencing her parenting obligations: “You probably have kids all over you and a baby on your boob, and you’re listening to me ramble at 2 in the morning.”

While Swift’s name appears in the messaging cited in Baldoni’s complaint, her representatives have made clear that her appearance at the meeting did not equate to professional involvement. Her schedule during 2023 and 2024 was dominated by international tour dates, during which she led the Eras Tour, described by her team as one of the most significant live productions in recent history.

Neither Lively nor Baldoni responded to additional media inquiries regarding Swift’s subpoena. The legal proceedings between the two actors continue to evolve, with witness lists and documentation under review. Swift’s representatives maintain that the legal team behind the subpoena is using her public identity to attract coverage rather than address the allegations central to the dispute.
