Xenonauts, known as the spiritual successor to the beloved X-COM franchise, has finally spawned a true successor: Xenonauts 2. Now available in early access, this highly anticipated sequel continues the legacy of old-school strategic gameplay that fans have come to adore.

Despite the passage of decades between the original Xenonauts and its sequel’s 2009 setting, the world finds itself in a perpetual state of limbo. The Cold War rages on, tensions between nations continue to simmer, and yet another alien invasion looms.

Prepare for nail-biting encounters as you face off against not only extraterrestrial foes but also humans sympathetic to the invaders or harboring animosity towards your multinational military group. Engage in classic turn-based battles while diligently managing fighter bases to combat enemy UFOs.

Fans of the original Xenonauts will discover that Xenonauts 2 represents more than a direct sequel. Publisher Hooded Horse describes it as a re-imagining, featuring a modern engine, a fresh setting, and refined mechanics. While preserving the essence of its predecessor, Xenonauts 2 introduces exciting new elements, including expanded maps and an enriched tech tree.

A Roadmap for Continuous Improvement

According to a recent Steam blog post by developers Goldhawk Interactive, the early access phase of Xenonauts 2 is estimated to last approximately nine months (subject to change).

During this period, the development team plans to overhaul air combat, introduce new maps teeming with formidable alien adversaries, and implement other enhancements based on player feedback. Currently, the early access version offers around 60-70% of the full campaign, providing approximately 10-15 hours of engaging gameplay where every click counts.

Early Access Discount and Promising Reception

Xenonauts 2 made a strong impression during the Steam Next Fest, showcasing its tough-as-nails battles in a well-received demo. The game is now available for purchase in early access at £35/$40, with a tempting 25% discount on platforms such as Steam, GOG, and The Epic Games Store.

Prepare to embark on a thrilling journey of tactical strategy and extraterrestrial encounters in Xenonauts 2’s early access version. Stay vigilant, commander, as the fate of humanity rests in your hands.
